Health First System Director Surgical Services - Cape Canaveral Hospital, Operating Room in Brevard County, Florida

Position Summary: Be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship as the Director of Surgical Services for CCH and the Health First, Community Hospitals. Has the ultimate leadership responsibility for planning, establishing/developing, leading and evaluating quality clinical and support services for the Surgical Services at Cape Canaveral Hospital and across Health First, Community Hospitals.

Primary Accountabilities: • The Director is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing and assisting in the development of realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. • Responsible for supporting hospital & surgical services leadership in the development of qualified and competent staff needed to provide quality service and for monitoring the activities of reporting managers and supervisors to ensure that ongoing educational opportunities, including attendance at organization-wide programs, are provided and that team members are treated with dignity, fairness, and consistency, set forth in HF Human Resource Policies and Procedures. • The Director is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between department team members and their customers, including patients, family members, visitors, physicians, clergy, other system employees, and the general public. • The Director is accountable for maintaining technical expertise and for development of leadership skills through ongoing education. • The Director is expected to act in a consultant role. The Director must be self-motivated and serve as a strong team leader and coach. • The Director will lead in a way to promote strategic thinking and to drive problem solving by empowering a healthy workplace consistent with established standards. • The Director will promote empowerment of team members through supporting them to assume responsibility and accountability within their scope of practice. • The Director will be the Health First, Community Hospitals’ most visible, surgical operations leader and will work as an integral member of the Health-First Surgical Service Line to develop and implement a strategic & growth plan for the Surgical Service Line in support of the health system's Mission, Vision, and Goals. • The Director will work closely with the VP of Surgical Services of Health First, the HRMC Director of Surgical Services, HF Community Hospital Division Leadership, HFMG, and HF Growth & Development to promote and support the consumer efforts targeted to this region. • The Director will provide input and recommendations regarding the expansion and/or addition of new surgical services, market feedback, gaps in services, etc. • Prepares recommendations to administration for procedures or practices that will build upon, improve operational or clinical efficiency or services offered, increase the quality of patient care, and reduce expenditures related to services or processes and increase growth. Implements or assists with implementation as needed. • Serves as consultant to help develop, brainstorm and facilitate new ideas and strategic direction. • Acts under the direction of the President and as such, keeps him/her informed on the progress and status of objectives and action plans. • Responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of goals/objectives for the surgical services areas. • Maintains a positive, open and effective relationship with the Medical Staffs, Hospital Management Teams and all levels of personnel through open communication, utilizing effective written and verbal skills. • Builds and maintains a positive work environment for providers, leadership, associates and promotes engagement. • Administers quality of service through consistent development design, interpretation, implementation and evaluation of the facility policies and procedures necessary to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness resulting in improved patient care services. • Assists the President in determining priorities as necessary to meet the changing demands of the Health System through effective planning, implementation and evaluation of surgical services goals and objectives. • Serves as a surgical services liaison between system/hospital/clinic administration, physicians, departments, and staff to ensure cost-effective utilization of services and processes. • Disseminates best practice information obtained from across Health First, and from outside system resources. • Delegates and supports the assigned areas; prepares and maintains documentation to achieve and maintain regulatory agency inspections, including Joint Commission, AHCA, etc. • Provides opportunities for providers/directors/managers/staff development and assures competency levels of staff are maintained. • Evaluates methodologies, systems, and programs of the hospital and implements necessary changes to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness that will result in improved patient care services. • Enforces policies in accordance with Federal Codes, AHCA, EOC, Joint Commission and legal requirements. • Recommends action to the President in regard to equipment modifications, new equipment and essential construction within the surgical services departments. • Leads in the planning for surgical services specific facilities and equipment and technology for which promote Health First’s Vision around “best outcome lowest cost”. • Work collaboratively with physician groups and organization leaders with improvement-related activities that improve operational and clinical efficiency while maintaining or enhancing the quality of patient care. • Provides coordination of activities in order to maintain an environment that is conductive to the delivery of quality patient care, while continuously seeking improvement in assigned areas. • Facilitates communication within the hospital/healthcare team and cardiovascular services. • Exhibits a visible presence in assigned areas, interacting with associates, patients and physicians. • Coordinates patient safety rounds and assists with setting of strategic direction to empower associates to provide a positive patient experience. • Establishes and maintains a participative management environment supportive of developing and optimizing human potential in order to meet organizational goals/objectives and quality, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, operational effectiveness and fiscal responsibility. • Collaborates with the President to assume responsibility for the preparation of strategic goals, objectives and operating plans for assigned areas at the beginning of the fiscal year. • Collaborates with Providers/Senior Leadership/Directors/Managers to promote personnel management in an efficient and cost effective manner; and manages staffing costs effectively and efficiently. • Assists and leads the preparation and management of operating, personnel and capital budgets in a fiscally responsible manner. • Helps coordinate resources with an understanding of patient care needs, projected patient census and changes in healthcare technology. • Reviews operating budget monthly and reports abnormal findings to the President. • In conjunction with the President, COOs, the VP of Surgical Services, and Director of Surgical Services HRMC, develops through a participative/inclusive process, strategic goals and objectives designed to focus on cardiovascular and resources on the priorities that add the greatest contributions to patient safety, quality services, cost effectiveness of service, customer satisfaction, future financial viability, revenue growth and income growth. • Assures the strategic planning and business alignment process is in place for Surgical Services that produce acceptable strategic and operational plans and budgets. • Analyze operating results of Surgical Services relative to established objectives and ensures that appropriate steps are taken to correct unsatisfactory conditions. • Develops systems and processes for services within the Surgical Services. • Works toward the full achievement of all relevant, annual service line goals with respect to growth/volume, quality, physician engagement, costs and operating net income.

Qualifications • Current, active Florida RN license or ability to obtain prior to start. • BSN required. • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related required. • At least 5 years of surgical leadership experience preferred with an impeccable track record of demonstrated success and expertise in engagement, quality performance, customer experience, and stewardship in both growth (e.g. volume, revenue, market share) and operational management (e.g. expense reduction & efficiency). • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Excellent interpersonal relations skills.
