Monterey Park Hospital, located in San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, is recruiting for a full time Human Resource Generalist. Monterey Park Hospital is a 101 bed acute care community hospital. Monterey Park Hospital has provided our community with advanced medical and culturally sensitive health-care services for over 40 years. Monterey Park Hospital is ranked highest in patient satisfaction among the seven (7) hospitals within the AHMC Healthcare Inc. system. Monterey Park Hospital has provided our community with advanced medical and culturally sensitive health-care services for over 40 years. The HR Generalist reports to the Human Resources Director. The Hospital employs approximately 480 clinical and non-clinical staff. The HR Generalist will interact and communicate with all levels of staff internally and with Corporate.

The HR Generalist will assist the HR Department in providing a wide range of HR administrative support to the HR Team, hospital staff and management. This position will primarily focus on data entry into HRMs, data tracking and report writing; reviewing benefit changes for active staff, preparing workers comp packets, reviewing workers compensation forms for completion; preparing employment separation packets, filing, answering phones and other administration duties. The HR Generalist is expected to have the ability to work independently, have excellent organizational and problem solving skills, can multi-task, is flexible and can work in an ever changing work environment. To ensure success, the HR Generalist should exhibit a knowledge of federal and state leave laws and workers comp experience. Experience working in a union environment is preferred. The HR Generalist may assist in recruitment, on-boarding and training to provide support to the department as needed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keeps current up with the California Department of Labor Laws updates and ensures compliance with all California Labor Laws and HR policies. Provides guidance on a range of HR policies and union contract language to support staff and management and ensures effective communication of HR practices.

  • Prepares Workers Compensation packets, submits claims to Third Party Administrator and communicates timely with the injured employee, Directors, Corporate Workers Compensation Coordinator, and the TPA Claims Representative.

  • Processes Leave of Absence Requests. Conducts interactive process meetings when needed.

  • Prepares exit packets.

  • Processes major life event mid year changes for health and welfare benefits, prepares correspondence regarding status changes and assists with coordinating the annual Benefits Open Enrollment meetings.

  • Participates in HR audits of new hires and contract staff for data accuracy and paperwork completeness.

  • Maintains compliance with current year Joint Commission HR Standards.

  • Data entry and Report Writing using HRMS system.

  • Coordinates various HR projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education: Some college preferred. PHR or SHRM certification preferred.

Experience: One to two years experience in a Human Resources department required. Hospital/Healthcare HR experience preferred.

Required skills/knowledge:

  • Knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations required

  • Knowledge of workers compensation programs, modified duty, claims review with TPA and interactive process preferred

  • Knowledge of HRMS systems and Report Writing

  • Knowledge of FMLA/CFRA/PDL regulations

  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission HR Standards preferred

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Products

  • Good organizational skills required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

  • Ability to work independently using critical thinking skills

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
